About

History of Heard County Humane Society

Every year 2.7 million adoptable animals in the US are euthanized. This number is staggering. The first interest meeting for the Heard County Humane Society was held, September 15th, 2015. Our mission is simply to “reduce the number of unwanted pets in Heard County, through rescue, resources and education.” We work with other licensed rescues throughout Georgia and the United States to place our at risk animals from Heard County.  Because of these partnerships between November 2016 and November 2017, we have saved over 400 dogs and cats from being euthanized in our local Animal Control facility. Heard County Humane Society does not have a facility and is a completely volunteer organization.  We are also not affiliated with, nor receive any financial support from the Humane Society of America.  We operate from personal donations.  100% of the funds go directly to the animals, as we have no paid staff.  We started small and the numbers of animals euthanized each year in the US is huge, but our organization is a testament to the power of local community work to create change.
